Utsav 2008
Shared Spaces Incorporated successfully created and presented Utsav 2008 in June 2008 a week long program of events partnering several national institutions including the Australian National University, the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra Glassworks and The Street Theatre. The festival was supported by the ACT Government, the Royal Embassy of the Netherlands, The Australia-India Council, The Indian High Commission and local businesses.
Utsav 2008 celebrated different aspects of dance including its focus on individual transformation through workshops with international dancers from India and the Netherlands. A successful forum at the Australian National University brought together a diverse group of professionals who use dance in different ways in their work as spiritual teachers, psychologists and academics. There were two professional performances at The Street Theatre featuring stories of women in collaboration with international dancers.
Utsav 2008 was planned and executed in a record time of three months. It attracted wide media attention on radio, television and print media. Over the week 700 people attended the events. The performance at the National Gallery of Australia The Divine Feminine evoked a standing ovation
Utsav 2008 won the Canberra Critics Circle Award for Dance for 2007-2008.
